Hey Friend,
We made it to Week 4. And I want to start today by saying; Thank You for staying with me in this.
We've walked all the way through Philippians 4:8 together. True. Honorable. Right. Pure. Lovely. Admirable. Excellent. Worthy of praise.
And now we get to the part of the verse that ties it all together. Two words that change everything:
"...think continually on these things."
Philippians 4:8 AMP
Think continually…
Not once. Not when you feel like it. Not only on the days when life is going well and your house is clean and everyone is kind to you. Continually.
The Greek word here is logizomai, and it's rich. It means to carefully consider, to reason, to take into account, to weigh. It's an intentional, ongoing, deliberate act.
Paul isn't talking about a single moment of clarity. He's talking about a posture. A practice. A daily, sometimes hourly, returning to what is true.
This is not natural. It is supernatural.
Let's be honest with each other as we close out this series. Guarding your thought life is hard. Not because you're weak, but because you're human, living in a world that is constantly feeding you the opposite of this verse.
Social media feeds you comparison and fear. The news feeds you despair. Your past feeds you shame. And your mind, left to itself, will default to all of it without even trying.
This is exactly why Paul says think continually. Because it requires intention every single day to choose a different stream.
But here's the grace in this.
You don't have to do this perfectly. You don't have to white-knuckle your way into a peaceful mind.
The same God who gave you this command gives you His Spirit to help you walk it out. The same peace Paul writes about in verse 7, the peace that surpasses all understanding is the peace that guards your heart and mind as you do the work of thinking rightly.
God is not standing over you with a clipboard, marking off every anxious thought. He is standing with you, offering you an alternative, again and again and again.
What does it look like practically?
I'm a practical woman, so let me leave you with something tangible.
Thinking continually on these things might look like:
• Starting your morning with Scripture before you open your phone.
• When an anxious thought comes, naming it, and then naming what God says instead.
• Keeping a running list of things that are true, good, and worthy of praise and going back to it when your mind starts to spiral.
• Praying through Philippians 4:8 as a template: Lord, help me think on what is true today...
None of this is complicated. All of it is daily.
Friend, this series has been so close to my heart because I spent years living in the opposite of this verse. And I know what it costs.
But I also know what it looks like on the other side. I know what it feels like when the bird lands and you don't run for the twigs. When you let truth interrupt the spiral. When peace becomes not just something you want, but something you walk in.
It starts right here. With what you choose to think about.
Thank you for walking through this with me. Keep going. Keep guarding. Keep thinking on these things.
There is freedom in Jesus Christ, and it is yours.
